Free Smoke Detectors

The Bridgeport Fire Department has been awarded a fire prevention and safety grant in the amount of $28,800 for the purpose of purchasing 1200 smoke detector packages. With these packages we hope to greatly reduce the number of homes in our community that may not have working smoke detectors. According to the National Fire Protection Agency or NFPA, while nearly 95% of homes may have smoke detectors only 80% have properly working detectors. It has been our experience during recent years that many Bridgeport families do not have adequate smoke detection.

Smoke detectors save lives. With properly working smoke detectors you and your family can gain valuable minutes to escape fast moving toxic smoke and deadly flames. It is the intention of the Bridgeport Fire Department to make the 1200 smoke detectors available to Bridgeport Residents that need a working smoke detector. The emphasis is on those who do not already have working detectors or an adequate number of detectors. This will be done in a number of different methods.

The following restrictions will apply;

Proof of Bridgeport residency is required. (Photo ID)

Must be 18 years of age to complete application.

Application must be for the applicant's primary residence within Bridgeport Township borders.

Limit one detector per household.
