Bridgeport Charter Township (the “Township”), located in Saginaw County, Michigan seeks an experienced Township Manager to lead a Township of approximately 10,100 residents residing in 34 square miles. The Township’s government provides a wide range of services to diverse residents and businesses. We are located near the Cass River and have a river path, two canoe kayak launches, and several parks. The Township operates with an approved 2024 overall budget of approximately $ 9.8 Million, a $3.3 million general fund operation budget, and approximately 36 full-time equivalent staff.

The Township Manager is the Township's chief administrative officer and reports to the seven elected members of the Board of Trustees. The position of Township Manager requires a person who is an outstanding communicator, can consistently provide reasoned and sound recommendations to the Board of Trustees for their consideration, and can carry out the policies established by the Board. The Township Manager leads the Township’s day-to-day operations and supervises the heads of its various departments (excluding the Clerk and Treasurer), including but not limited to the Police Department, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Fire Department, and Water and Public Works Department.

The requirements and qualifications for the position of Township Manager include the following:

  • A progressive record of strong, open professional administrative leadership in a similar community.
  • A bachelor’s from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in planning, public administration, political science, business management or a closely related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of governmental experience. Budget & management experience is preferred.
  • An understanding of the role of a township manager and the operational responsibilities of the position.
  • The ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks.
  • Being a good listener with the ability to adapt quickly to various situations and circumstances.
